Istradalen is absolutely charming place often seen as a hidden gem of Middle Norway. The location bears a resemblance to Canadian landscape due to fast flowing river, azure water color, leafy forests and most importantly gigantic mountains. Kongen (The King) and Bispen (The Bishop), Dronninga (The Queen) rise steep above the famous Trollstigen road and the whole Isteradalen valley itself. The post will give you a sneakpeak into general information about the vally.
You can easily get there when heading for the famous Trollstigen serpentine road. On the way to Valldal, you can stay overnight in the trollstigen camping. Alternatively, you can search for some wild camping spots too when getting towards Trollstigen. There are many hidden camping places like for instance, the one squeezed into an area of Istrafossen. Particularly the last place I find really unique due to the peace and quiet. It offerds up an access to wooden benches, bonfire spot and unforgettable landscape views too.
The river of Istra runs through the Isterdalen valley before emptying into the Rauma river in the Romsdalen valley. The place is alleged to be abundant in salmon so if you got you fishing rot packed, maybe chances are you can succeed in catching a hearty fish for lunch. The river is truly crystal clear due to seeping through plentiful cascades of waterfalls all the way up to Trollstigen camping. If you want to explore the area with its landmarks a little bit what is worth visiting is Klovstein or Trollstigfoten.
If I need to be brutally honest, there are no shops in Istradalen. As a consequence, you have only Trollstigen camping and Trollstigen cafe to satisfy your hunger. Surprisingly, the prices in these restaurants are not ranked among the highest ones so you can afford to buy lunch. Needless to say, you should not be concerned with water to quench your first whatsoever as the river offers up totally potable water. Please, take any procosions when fetching water from the river as the force of the flowing water is relatively fast putting your life at risk.
