There are a few bare essentials you need to take into account when gearing up for extreme photo tours in Scandinavia. Yes extreme! I do not want to fuel your fear of traversing around far northern countries but you might be better off preparing yourself for different scenarios. Organizing expedition equipment can be pretty time-consuming and very engaging but the effort pays off giving you reassurance that you should deal with even the most severe conditions. I’m sharing here a packing tips and list of equipment so that you can better arrange your expeditions in Viking land at any time of the year.
Tent: It has been 5 years since I have had equipped myself in a 2-person King Camp Apollo Light expedition tent. I’m pretty knowledgeable about tent- related issues as I got familiarized with two more brands beforehand , such as: Hi-Mountain and Coleman. With a clear conscience, I can highly recommend the Expedition King Camp tent. The difference between the above-mentioned brands lies primarily in the tent bottom material, waterproof parameters and functionality. The King Camp tent consists of two solid layers at the bottom. This is not just a foil bottom like Coleman tent brand I tested. As for the response to the humidity, the King Camp tent tropic has a waterproof rating of 5000 mm. I’ve never complained about its waterproof properties, despite I slept in really heavy rain . As for shape manufacturer assures:
The highly recommend Expedition King Camp is type of the tent which is moderately heavy because it weighs 3.6 kg, but when folded it takes a relatively compact shape and does not take up a lot of space (48 x 16 cm).
To recap, Appollo Kingcap tent is really sturdy and solid. Not to mention that the equipment is properly warm, but at the same time it is made of breathable polyester which is perfect for really hot and humid days. The summer mornings in Norway or another far-northern countries in either May or June very often welcomed us with high temperatures of up to 30 degrees, but the tent seemed to enable a proper ventilation. When it comes to pitching and taking down the tent, the process is rather intuitive. After pitching a tent, you can enjoy a solid and trustworthy construction.
Self-inflating mat: The next part of the equipment makes the King Camp self-inflating mat. Once inflated, it gives you around 9 cm of insulation from the ground. When spreading the picnic rug across the bottom of a tent, the mat performs even better providing you really reliable thermal comfort. What’s more, every once in a while I make the most of my NRC foil instead of a blanket. It gives you additional layer so that you can feel more comfortable.
Camp kitchen equipment: Generally speaking, I use thermos, vacuum bottle, cutlery set and Jetboil burner. I do not recommend one particular brand as many available online can be a great facility.
Matches or lighter: When firing a fire, I usually use a sprinkle of dry twigs (preferably pine) and matches to prepare sausages. On trips in less lenient areas I use the Collemen gas cooker. A too compact stove is not usually good idea because it can happen so that buying a gas cartridge at a place we travel will be a problem.
Headlamp description includes a short review as I need to exchange headlight equipment. I prefer to purchase Petzl headlamp as it proved successful.
The actual headlamp I have is Headlight brand of the strength of 2800 lumen. (I know that the name speaks for itself! 😀 ) It is enough for a short distance of 100m. As promised by the manufacturer, the range of light should have over 500 m, although I do not believe it. It failed. The intensity of the light beam in the second mode is not shown in the specification at all…
Evoc backpack: This backpack is my expedition equipment and photo gear storage place 26 l, so it holds more, not just my optics and gadgets for photography. According to the manufacturer description, the backpack enables you to hook the ski. It says a lot about the strength of the equipment. Not to mention that Evoc gives you a guarantee of a very high waterproof performance. It has hooks and harnesses in several places so it is possible to attach a tent or a self-inflating mat, too. . a tent or a self-inflating mat to it.
According to the manufacturer’s promise to the backpack you can also hook the ski and it says a lot about the strength of the equipment either. Free, Evoc gives you a case with very high waterproof performance.
Sleeping bag: Because of Black Friday I have not spend so much money for Mamrot sleeping bag. The stuff is absolutely fantastic! Temperature extremum the sleeping bag can be exposed to is -39 whereas comfort temperature reaches -5! I was weighting up different pros and cons of various sleeping bags till that Friday. I find it irresistible.
